In a candid and emotional statement shared on social media, Elon Musk opened up about the recent surge in hostility directed at Tesla, including acts of vandalism targeting the company’s vehicles, charging stations, and facilities. The billionaire CEO, known for his sometimes polarizing public presence, expressed disbelief and sorrow at what he described as “an unnecessary wave of hate.”
“I’m genuinely shocked,” Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Tesla has always stood for innovation, sustainability, and pushing humanity forward. The level of hatred and vandalism we’ve seen recently is heartbreaking. I’ve never hurt anyone. Why the anger?”
Reports of vandalism against Tesla assets have been increasing in recent weeks, with incidents ranging from spray-painted superchargers to smashed car windows at Tesla showrooms. Some attacks appear politically motivated, while others seem to be the result of general discontent or targeted personal animosity toward Musk himself.
While critics argue that Musk’s controversial statements and actions — including mass layoffs at Tesla, clashes with regulators, and his vocal presence on social media — may have fueled public backlash, many supporters have come to his defense, saying the vandalism is unjustified and deeply concerning.
“Elon is far from perfect, but destroying property isn’t protest — it’s criminal,” one user wrote in response to his post. “This is not how we make the world better.”
Musk, who has long framed Tesla as a mission-driven company aiming to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy, emphasized that the company’s goals have always been in service of humanity. “Tesla doesn’t profit from pollution. We’re not selling oil. We’re building a future with clean energy, autonomy, and safety,” he wrote.

The Tesla CEO ended his message on a more hopeful note: “I believe in people. I believe we can disagree without hate. Let’s build, not break.”
As investigations into the vandalism continue, Musk’s emotional response has sparked a wider conversation about public discourse, the fine line between criticism and aggression, and the challenges that come with being one of the most visible figures in tech.
