Guest List: How Do I Stop My Parents From Adding Too Many People To The Guest List?

Q:

My parents keep adding to the guest list—it’s seriously getting out of hand. How do I curb their enthusiasm?

A:

Sit down and politely explain why you want to keep this an intimate party. Give examples (for instance, your first-choice venue only seats 80 guests). If they’re paying for the entire event, however, they are the hosts; this means they can invite whomever they want. But if you and your fiancé are contributing, remind them (in a nice way) that the final decision will ultimately be yours on the total number.
