Here’s How Much a Wedding Planner Actually Costs

The cost of a wedding planner depends on a multitude of factors, mostly because not all planners are the same type or charge the same way.

By that, we mean a wedding planner typically charges in one of three ways: a flat fee, hourly rate or a percentage of your overall wedding bill, so it totally depends on the type of wedding planner you choose to hire and what your own wedding budget is.

For what it’s worth, most wedding planners charge flat fees these days, but regardless of which way your wedding planner charges, you should plan to set aside an estimated 15 percent of your wedding budget for a full-service wedding planner, or lower if you’re simply looking for a day-of coordinator.

If you’re only hiring a wedding planner for your day-of coordination, that cost can vary widely. According to The Knot 2017 Real Weddings Study, the average cost of a “wedding coordinator/event planner” was $1,988.

Yes, a wedding planner might seem like a big investment—but between their solid connections, budget control and creative solutions (and not to mention, a lot of stress and confusion off your plate), you’ll be happy you hired one. Net-net, your wedding planner will help you make the absolute most of your wedding budget, which is a pretty sound investment as far as we’re concerned.
