Here’s What to Do With Your Wedding Website After the Wedding

Once you tie the knot, you’ll have a few postwedding to-dos to take care of. Checklist items like thank-you cards, registry returns and wedding dress preservation should be top of mind, but don’t forget about your wedding website. What happens to your site after all the festivities anyway? Should you leave it be, hide it, delete? Here’s what you need to know.

1. Don’t Delete It

We all have those friends—you know, the ones who wait until the last minute (or even longer) to get their act together. Technically, wedding guests have up to a year after the wedding to head to your registry and send a gift. So don’t cut your friends off from your website before everyone’s had a chance to choose a great gift. All you need to do is keep your website going strong and let the gifts roll in.

2. Add New Photos

Swap out your engagement cover photo for a stunning pic from your wedding day—once your photographer sends them back, that is. Feel free to include a thank-you message on the homepage too (although this doesn’t get you out of handwriting thank-you cards). You could also share a larger selection of photos from your wedding day that includes guests and scenic shots, then tell guests to head to your site to find their faves. Everyone will want to watch your wedding video when it’s ready, so post it on your website for everyone to see.

3. Share Honeymoon Details

If honeymoon photos and anecdotes are in high demand from loved ones, update the website with snaps and a few fun details from your trip.

4. Update Your Address

Did you move somewhere new after saying “I do?” Your wedding website is an awesome place to spread the word about your newlywed nest.

5. Keep It on the DL

You might feel weird having your wedding website show up on large search engines like Google, especially once your wedding’s come and gone. No biggie. If you’ve created your domain on The Knot, log into your account and head to “Privacy Settings.” Once there, under “Website Visibility” set “Allow your site to appear in search engines” to “No.” Then, hit “Done” and you should be good to go (heads up, you should allow up to 30 days for it to take affect).
