With wedding spending on the rise, according to The Knot 2016 Real Weddings Study, it’s no surprise that tradition still rings true when it comes to who’s footing the wedding bill. For most couples, parents will be large contributors to the majority of wedding costs, with only 10 percent of couples paying for their celebration entirely themselves.
But that doesn’t mean parents are the sole patrons of the wedding day, as just a small 8 percent of couples didn’t contribute anything to their wedding budget. In other words, 92 percent of couples chipped in in some way. Here’s exactly how couples and their parents split the wedding bill in 2016.
The bride’s parents contribute 44 percent of the overall wedding budget
The groom’s parents contribute 13 percent of the overall wedding budget
The to-be-weds contribute 42 percent of the overall wedding budget
