Is This the New Naked Cake?

Remember when the naked cake became a thing? Of course you do. It was the crop top of the bakery world—unfrosted tiers, oh my!—and now it’s the exclamation point of half the weddings you attend. The simple details and exposed cake layers have become the perfect alternative for couples who want something less traditional for their wedding.

But now the pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction, from minimal fuss to ultimate embellishment. Instead of going bare, cakes are getting an all-out makeover. Metallic garnishes, candy accents and pops of color have started making their way onto cakes in the US (we first spotted this trend in Australian bakeries like Katherine Sabbath and
UnBirthday). Could this be the new naked cake?
