Q&A: Save-the-Dates: When to Send Save the Date Cards?

Q:

I’m inviting 200 guests to my wedding. The majority of them are local; but roughly 15 percent are from other states. Should I send invitations to the out-of-town guests separately? Or should I send the whole bunch at the same time? And should I send save-the-date cards to out-of-towners? I’ve had so many different responses to this question; I’d appreciate your input.

A:

There’s no reason to have two different invite-sending dates, especially if only 15 percent of your guests are from out of state. Send your out-of-town guests save-the-date cards four to six months before the wedding so they can plan accordingly, and then send all your invites (local and out-of-towners) at least eight weeks prior to your wedding date.
