“We could have vacationed
a lot closer to home, but we wanted an exotic location that would be different from
any future travel we might do together,” Kelly says of their decision to honeymoon near the Andaman Sea. With help from
a travel agent and TripAdvisor, the couple planned a 16-day excursion that first took them to Bangkok, where they spent three nights in Ariyasom Villa. “It was our little oasis in the heart of the crazy city,” Kelly says.
After exploring a local Thai farm and Bangkok’s historic temples, the pair checked off one (very) large item on Kelly’s travel to-do list: “We visited an elephant sanctuary!” she says. Next, Kelly and EJ boarded a flight to Krabi and canoed around the entire island of Koh Hong before taking a ferry to Phuket. From there, the newlyweds landed on Phi Phi Island, where they stumbled upon Pad Thai, a tucked away local restaurant. “We loved it
so much that we ate there every night,” Kelly says. “It was the best food we had in Thailand.”
