Etsy’s 2018 Wedding Trend Guide is here, and it introduces the wedding trends that are the most popular on the online shop so far this year—aka what creators are selling, what shoppers are loving and everything in between. And there’s no shortage of inspiration here. Below, find the eight style and décor trends you’ll probably be seeing everywhere this year—including, perhaps, at your own nuptials.
Southwestern Style
CLIQUERegardless of whether or not you have a desert venue at your disposal, you can still consider the Southwestern-style trend a viable option for your rustic nuptials. All you need is some muted greenery, bright pops of color and textured wood details. Also, who wouldn’t love an adorable mini cactus wedding favor? Etsy shoppers and sellers everywhere have been capturing the vibe—there’s been a 72 percent increase in product views associated with “Southwestern wedding.”
Alternative Guest Books
ANNA AND SPENCER PHOTOGRAPHYYes, the idea of a guest book is a sweet, sentimental keepsake for the couple, but a book brimming with notes isn’t exactly display worthy in the newlywed nest. That’s why we’re loving alt guest books that are decidedly decorative, like jenga games, puzzles, globes and more (often crafted by ultra-creative Etsy sellers). Etsy shoppers are loving them too—in the last year alone, the term “guest book alternative” has seen a 53 percent increase.
Statement Veils
Modern Wedding PhotographyDon’t let your gown do all the talking. Statement veils are in right now, according to the online shop (shoppers have viewed 213 percent more “dramatic veils” compared to 2017). Think: luxe lengths, flowing fringe or even sprinklings of floral embellishments. (Pro tip: Pair an attention-grabbing veil with a simpler gown to keep your look streamlined.)
Stacked Rings
EtsyLooking to customize your ring finger candy based on your mood? You’re in luck: Stacked rings are the engagement and wedding jewelry trend we’re seeing everywhere right now, but especially on Etsy—product views for the term “stacking rings” are up 68 percent since 2017. This trend is perfect for fashion-forward brides who love customizing and switching up their bling.
Cape Toppers
KURT WILBERDING; MARIA VALENTINO/ MCV PHOTOYes, cape toppers, not cake toppers. We predicted this trend after Fall 2018 Bridal Fashion Week and it’s truly exploding, according to Etsy (on-site searches for “wedding capes” are up 44 percent). More brides are choosing to cover up with chic, flirty capes—a perfect alternative to veils if those aren’t your thing. It’s also a super easy way to transition your look from your formal ceremony to your fun reception.
Clear Acrylic Décor
Lauren Scotti PhotographyWe love this trend for its modern minimalism—whether it’s incorporated via place cards or signage. And we have a feeling it’s about to be everywhere, given the fact that the term “clear acrylic wedding” has increased by a whopping 309 percent on Etsy compared to last year. The best part: The neutral, colorless material pairs with literally any hue, so you can go for it no matter what your palette is.
Embroidered Gowns
Heather Brulez PhotographyWhether it’s stars, blooms or embellishments, embroidered details on gowns are having a major moment. It’s a flirty, feminine style for any bride, but it’s an especially on-theme and chic touch for brides hosting a folksy or bohemian affair. According to Etsy’s report, the term “embroidered bridal wear” is pulling in 40 percent more products this year than in 2017.
Pet-Friendly Weddings
ROBYN VAN DYKE PHOTOGRAPHYNow, this is one trend pretty much everyone can get behind—but especially Etsy sellers and shoppers, considering you’ll find more than 30,000 search results for “pet wedding” on the online shop. Whether you need the perfect mini tuxedo or a “here comes the bride” collar sign for your furry friend, you’re sure to find the very best wedding accessories for your very best “good boy.”
