While the Kentucky Derby might be known as “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” you can extend the racing day festivities for as long as you want by incorporating derby-themed elements into your wedding events. Over-the-top hats, rose garlands and equestrian-inspired décor set the scene, but if guests don’t have a mint julep in hand, they’re missing out on the best part.
If you’re not sure a signature cocktail is quite your thing, Lara Crystal and Lindsey Andrews, cofounders of Minibar, offer good reasons to give it a second thought. “It adds a touch of whimsy and elegance to any occasion, and on a practical note, it makes things easier for the bartenders and guests—one less thing to think about!”
And don’t forget that your drinks will be all over your reception and, most likely, make an appearance in your wedding photos. “It’s important to present them in a way that will look great for years to come, but keep them simple enough to prepare quickly, allowing guests to enjoy the party rather than the bar line,” Crystal and Andrews say. Waiters can also pass the signature cocktail around to guests, so they can keep socializing and dancing rather than waiting for a drink.
