Dreaming up your wedding colors should be one of the most fun parts of planning (97 percent of couples choose specific wedding colors). The beauty of getting to pick your palette is that it’s completely up to you. Feeling bold? Shoot for a vibrant, diverse and unexpected combination, like magenta, poppy red and yellow (trust us, it’s gorgeous). If you consider yourself a true classic, deck your day in sweet pastels and creamy whites. But the best inspo often comes from checking out stunning weddings from couples who’ve already crushed the color combo game before you (psst—you can see tons of ideas from real weddings right here). And lucky for you, we’ve got the inside scoop on the colors couples are loving—and the ones they aren’t—straight from the The Knot 2016 Real Weddings Study.
Here are the colors that have lost some popularity over the past five years, starting with the least popular. (By the way, we still think they’re gorgeous, but the people have spoken!)
- Brown
- Red
- Dark pink
- Orange
- Black
- Light green
And here’s which six hues are on the up and up, starting with the most popular.
- Ivory or champagne
- Dark blue
- Light pink
- Gold
- Gray
- Burgundy
There’s a reason ivory, navy, blush and champagne are always go-to colors: They’re timeless shades that work for any season or wedding style—and brown, apparently not so much. We don’t know though, you could accept this as a challenge and plan a gorgeous, rustic fall wedding accented with touches of khaki, burnt caramel and chocolate brown (just saying).
