Residency Requirements: 40 days (for at least one of you)
Necessary Documents: Most town halls in France require some or all of the following documents, but check locally for specific requirements; a valid U.S. passport, or a French residence permit (carte de sejour); a birth certificate (extrait d’acte de naissance) less than 3 months old; affidavit of marital status; affidavit of law; medical certificate no more than 2 months old.
Note: Most city halls require that you present a certified copy of your birth certificate with a certified translation. You must obtain the translation from a sworn translator (traducteur assermente). Sworn translators are listed at every mairie: (http://france.usembassy.gov/consul/guideoas/translators.pdf).
Also: Must post marriage banns (intent to marry) at the local town hall no less than 10 days prior to wedding date.
