5 Candy Tips From Dylan Lauren

How can you personalize candy for a wedding?

Think outside the box! Wrap small chocolate bars with elegant paper, or tie lollipops with a pretty ribbon for escort cards. You can also surprise guests with tasteful sachets filled with mini candies fastened to each program—or gift favors of candy and sweet popcorn in cello bags for late-night munching.

What about the packaging?

It’s exciting to select candies in wedding colors, or ones that are the couple’s favorites. Dylan’s Candy Bar’s Design Shoppe can customize candy favors with colors, fonts and graphics—you can even add your wedding date and a fun photo.

How much candy do you really need to pull off a candy bar?

For a wedding of about 75 guests, plan on one pound of candy per person, give or take. Have a variety of vessels (such as apothecary jars): three for gummies, three for chocolate and one with a fun surprise. The taller vessels can go in the back, and the shorter ones in the front for some height variety on the table. And don’t forget to also add a centerpiece or two.

What treat do you absolutely need to include?

Using the classics on a candy buffet is always a great way to go—jelly beans, gumballs, gummy bears and chocolate-covered pretzels are top picks. An array of colors and textures is eye-catching, and it’s nice that there’s something for everyone as well.

How can you be mindful of guest allergies?

I recommend having a small card next to each candy that lists ingredients and addresses allergy concerns, as well as having a separate scooper for each container to avoid contamination. It’s also smart to educate whoever is handling the candy bar to help answer questions your guests may have.

Favor Tip

Turn up the volume on the classic candy bar with kebabs. Stack your favorite gummies and licorice or let guests choose their preferred mix with a DIY sweets station.
