Invitations: What invitation wording should we use for a civil ceremony?

Q:

How should we word our wedding invitations if we have an intimate civil ceremony months before our big ceremony/reception?

A:

This is a tricky one. Since you’ve technically tied the knot, I’d suggest something like this: “We’re Married! John and Jane Doe were married on April 2, 2016 in Las Vegas. Together with our parents, we invite you to celebrate with us in a formal ceremony and evening of dinner and dancing on Saturday, March 22, 2016, beginning at 5:00 p.m.” Happy celebrating!
